Bangkok emerges as a new film festival hub

Bangkok does not have the sizzle of the Goa film festival or the passion of the Kerala film festival, but it has enough seductive spaces, halls, beaches to unleash any number of movie-festivals. This year, there has been a surfeit of them, even though we are only three months gone in 2012.

The year began with three back-to-back festivals — the World Film Festival of Bangkok, Bangkok Experimental Festival, and the Bangkok International Forest Film Festival.

Korea Telecom restricting Samsung Smart TV

Net Neutrality and providers blocking or restricting speeds to certain locations has generally not impacted the average home consumer, but it seems in South Korea owners of a Samsung Smart TV may not be too happy if their connection is provided by Korea Telecom. WhatHiFi featured the news that Korea Telecom is to start restricting internet access for apps and streaming on Samsung Smart TV’s.

Bangkok police raid wildlife slaughterhouse

The Thai Police have struck at the heart of the wildlife trade in Bangkok by raiding a slaughterhouse used to kill and dismember endangered species such as tigers and elephants. In the raid 7 people were arrested and the Thai police are now chasing the wildlife trafficker involved with the operation.

The raid on the premises in Bangkok saw officers catch the people in the process of chopping up a 400 kg male tiger. The residential building being used as the slaughterhouse contained other dead and dismembered wildlife such as tigers, elephants, crocodiles, endangered birds and even zebras.
